Carol Jackson – Owner/Director
Miss Carol began her training in ballet and jazz at the age of three under the instruction of Patricia Murray Traylor. At age ten, she was asked to join the Huntsville Civic Ballet Company where she continued her study under Lloyd Tygett, Judith Pointer, and Charlotte Dickerson. She began auditioning for acceptance into prominent summer dance programs around the nation. At age eleven, she became the youngest student to be accepted into Birmingham Southern College’s summer Dance Seminar where she received instruction from director, Mira Popovich. Miss Carol was one of only two hundred students nationwide to be selected to attend Ballet West’s summer Dance Intensive in Aspen, Colorado and was placed in the highest technical class level. During her training in Aspen, she was chosen to perform the Lilac Fairy variation from Sleeping Beauty as well as the variation from Corsaire in the program’s final performance. In 1985, she was asked to join Omni Dance Theatre where she toured for two seasons performing The Nutcracker. Miss Carol has attended and performed in numerous competitions throughout her career winning awards in both solo and group categories. After winning first place in the regional competition, Miss Carol traveled to New York City where she attended the dance Masters of America National Convention and brought home a second place award. During her stay in New York, Miss Carol had the opportunity to attend classes by the Joffrey School of Ballet and Broadway Dance Center. During her senior year at Grissom High School, she was offered a full four-year dance scholarship to Birmingham Southern College, and was accepted into the Boston Ballet.
Miss Carol began her training as a dance educator at an early age. She was asked to become a student teacher where she was allowed to teach ballet and jazz under the supervision of her instructor. After several years of training, Miss Carol was offered a full time position as a teacher where she taught students age three through adult. She began to choreography for the school’s productions and competitions where her pieces received high honors. Miss Carol is a member of Dance Masters of America, Chapter 41 and is certified by test to teach. Throughout the years, Miss Carol’s students have been accepted to Alabama School of Fine Arts, Alabama Ballet, and other prominent dance programs around the nation. She is the teacher of record for the Dance Masters of America, Chapter 33 Junior Miss Dance 2001. This year her students received 8 scholarships to Dance Educators of America National Conventions and National Ballet Intensive Seminars, were accepted to college dance programs around the nation and took top honors at each and every competition in which they participated. The Blue Diamond Association rated Miss Carol one of the top four recommended teachers in the state of Alabama. She has successfully competed her second year at the Dance Masters of America Teacher Training School and plans to return to New York to complete her training and become a graduate. Miss Carol is thankful for the opportunity to help each of her students fulfill their dreams of becoming a dancer.
